How to travel to Nationalpark Chalets.

Our chalets in the beautiful Neukirchen am Großvenediger are accessible in various ways: by car, plane, or train. Below we provide an overview of all options:

By Car

  • Via Kitzbühel and Paß Thurn: The most commonly used and straightforward route, summer and winter. Easy to drive.
  • Via the Zillertal over the Gerlos Pass: This panoramic route is especially recommended in summer. Note that Google Maps sometimes points to the old Gerlos Pass. While this is a beautiful route, it is a less safe choice in winter. You need to pay a toll for the new Gerlos Pass.

Since Google is your best friend, we ask you to note the following tips carefully. They can be a real lifesaver (so to speak). Avoid ending up on our ski slope – you certainly won't be the first, and probably not the last to do so.

Nationalpark Chalets is only accessible via the Gerlosstraße B165, using the following guidelines:

Our chalet village is not accessible via the Rossbergweg above the chalets. Note: most navigation systems automatically choose the fastest route, and that is often the Rossbergweg. Return to the Gerlosstraße and use the above Google directions.

Vignette: Via the website asfinag.at you can enter your route and purchase a digital vignette if necessary.

Winter Tires and Snow Chains: Don't forget to equip your car with winter tires in the winter months (this is mandatory!), and keep snow chains handy.

By Plane

The nearest airports are:

  • Salzburg Airport (W.A. Mozart): 2 hours drive.
  • Innsbruck Airport: 1.5 hours drive.
  • Munich Airport: 2.5 to 3 hours drive.

From these airports, you can reserve a rental car or take a taxi. We recommend a rental car so you can be mobile in the area.

By Train

Traveling by train? You can travel to Zell am See or Mittersill. From there, you can take the bus to Neukirchen am Großvenediger.

We advise you to check the timetables in advance via ÖBB or Deutsche Bahn to plan your trip well. Tickets are easily available via these websites or at local ticket machines at larger stations.

Seasonal Night Trains: In the winter and summer seasons, night trains run from the Netherlands (via Germany) directly to Austria, including destinations close to Neukirchen. This is a relaxed way to arrive in the Alps well-rested. Check for more information and tickets via ÖBB.
